Weekly Walks - January to March 2012

For those starting from the Mulberry Gym, meet at 10.00. Bring stout walking shoes or boots, a waterproof and a drink. Coffee and biscuits are provided on the walk. Cost £10 per person payable on the day.
Wednesday 18th January 2012 Dyserth, Trelawnyd and Gwaenysgor
The walk starts from Dyserth and takes bridleways to Trelawnyd. From there we climb Gop Hill
and then across farmland to Gwaenysgor. We then return along the Offa's Dyke path via Craig Fawr
with excellent views over the coast. Start at the car park on the A5151, OS Explorer map 265, grid
ref 062 793. This walk starts at 10.30, is about 6 miles and will take about 2.5 hours.
Saturday 21st January 2012 Sodom and Moel-y-Gaer
This is a figure of eight walk that explores the low hills of the northern Clwydians. Making our
way up to Sodom we get some notable views. We return eventually along Offa's Dyke footpath
passing over Cefn Ddu and Moel-y-Gaer, visiting an ancient hillfort. Start from Bodfari (at junction), SJ 097701. This moderate walk starts at 10.30, is about 5 miles and will take about 2.5 hours.
Wednesday 25th January 2012 Moel Llys-y-Coed
A walk over heather clad hills with a hill fort and views over the Vale of Clwyd.
The walk starts from the Moel Arthur car park, OS Explorer map 265, grid ref 147 658.
The walk starts at 10.30, is 4.5 miles and will take about 2.5 hours.
Wednesday 1st February 2012 Bryn Alyn (near Llanarmon)
A walk on a limestone pavement with wide views of the Clwydian range and along ancient miners'
tracks. Start at the car park on the B5430 just north of Llanarmon, OS Explorer map 265, grid ref
189 573. This walk starts at 10.30, is about 5.5 miles and will take about 2.5 hours.
Saturday 4th February 2012 Caerhun and Conwy Valley
A walk that visits a Roman fort at Caerhun that was on the main crossing of the River Conwy.
Here we find a lovely old church that's a delight to visit. From here we make our way past Caer
Rhun Hall to cross the main road and continue through fields and along lanes of the Conwy valley
to eventually pick up the Pilgrim's Way back to Tal-y-Cafn. This easy to moderate walk starts at
Tal-y-Cafn. SH 788 717 at 10.30, is about 5.5 miles and will take about 2.5 hours.
Wednesday 8th Feb 2012 Llanfair Talhaiarn
A walk from this picturesque village, leading along the peaceful Nant Barrog valley, then contours
around Moel Unben with superb views of the Snowdonia Peaks, returning along a peaceful lane.
The walk starts at 10.30, is 5 miles long and will take around 2.5 hours. The walk starts from the public
car park beside the bridge OS Explorer map 264, grid ref 927 702.
Wednesday 15th February 2012 Henllan
A pleasant walk centred on the attractive village of Henllan through rolling farmland and along
old tracks. Start from the Llindir Inn, OS Explorer map 264, grid ref 024 681. This walk starts at
10.30, is about 5 miles and will take about 2.5 hours.
Saturday 18th February 2012 Cefn Ddu and Y Graig
This walk explores the Clwydian hills with panaramic views above Tremeirchion. It also takes in
a section of Offa's Dyke traversing Cefn Ddu. We then follow a delightful bridleway to Y Graig
which is a nature reserve on a prominent limestone crag. Next on the route we can see some caves
that were once occupied by stone-age man before returning to the medieval church at Tremeirchion.
Start from the church at Tremeirchion, SJ 083 731. This moderate walk starts at 10.30, is about 5
miles and will take about 2.5 hours.
Wednesday 21st Feb 2012 Llanferres and Maeshafn
Woodland, limestone crags and river valleys. The walk takes us through an ancient lead mining
village. The walk starts from the lay-by on the A49 south of Llanferres. This walk starts at 10.30, is
about 5 miles and will take about 2.5 hours. Start map ref (187 598) Explorer map 265.
Wednesday 29th February 2012 Moel Famau
Starting from Llangynhafal this is a quiet and slightly steeper ascent to the heather clad ridge of
Moel Dywyll then on to Moel Famau, the highest point on the Clwydian range. The walk starts
from outside the Golden Lion in the village, OS explorer map 265 grid ref 129 635. The walk starts
at 10.30, is 5 miles, includes some fairly steep ascent and should take around 2.5 hours.
Saturday 3rd March 2012 The Jubilee Walk above Penmaenmawr
We start by going down into Capelulo and taking the lane into Fairy Glen, making our way up the
side of Foel Lus to attain the Jubilee Walk. This spendid viewing platform is the perfect place to see
both up and down the coast. We continue around the mountain to pick up the North Wales Coastal
Path back to the start. Start from the top car park on the Sychnant Pass, grid ref SH 750770. This
moderate to hard walk starts about 10.30, is 5.5 miles and should take about 3 hours.

The walk leads along the river valley and then along quiet lanes and old tracks with wide views to
the sea.
The walk starts in the village at 10.30, OS map 264 ref 060 578.
Saturday 17th March 2012 Moel Llys-y-Coed and Cwm Gain
After skirting the hill of Moel Llys, we take a green lane into the pretty village of Cilcain. From
here we take another lane through Cwm Gain, to eventually reach the ridge and Offa's Dyke path.
We follow the ridge back and down to the car park. Start from Moel Arthur car park, SJ 148 658.
5.5miles of moderate to hard walking.
Wednesday 21st March 2012 Mynydd y Gaer and Llaneffydd
A walk over Mynydd y Gaer – site of an Iron age hillfort, through woodland and open country
with views over the coast and surrounding hills. Start from the car park in the middle of Llanefydd
opposite theHawk and Buckle Inn, map ref (SH 982 706). Starting at 10.30, the 5 miles should take
about 2.5 hours.
Wednesday 28th March 2012 Abergele and Gopa Wood
Starting from near the Golf Club at Abergele the walk ascends the woodland paths to the summit of
Gopa wood with several splendid viewpoints over the coast. From the top the walk descends along
farmland paths to return to Abergele using more woodland paths.

Saturday 31st March 2012 Llyn Crafnant and Llyn Geirionydd
Leaving the scenic car park, we go up the road to our first lake (Crafnant). We partially circle
this lake anti-clockwise and then traverse a wood to emerge at the back of Llyn Geirionydd. We
then have a charming walk around the back of this lake to the head of it where we pass through
some disused mine workings to return to the car park. Start from Llyn Crafnant car park (up from
Trefriw) grid ref SH 757 619.
